Private Flute Lessons....What to Expect:

     I teach flute players of all ages, from beginners through adults. I use a method book based approach for teaching fundamental technique, but I also incorporate scales, solos, duets, school band/orchestra music, etc. into my lessons.  I run a very positive/encouraging studio while pushing my students to the best of their abilities, and I tailor my lessons to fit each student's individual interests and needs. When working with beginners, I cover basic embouchure formation, note reading, rhythms, fingerings, etc., while still having fun. With older students, we work to advance their technique & beautify their sounds, play exciting flute literature, & prepare band/orchestra music.  I also help older students prepare for auditions (ILMEA, camps, school ensembles, camps) and Solo & Ensemble Contest. For those who are interested, I help them learn to play piccolo and choose instruments for purchase/upgrade.  With adult students, I customize each lesson to fit that particular student's goals and desires--partnering with that student to choose music that challenges & inspires them.  

 

     I do believe recitals are important growth opportunities for students, so I host two recitals each year—one in the fall & another in the spring.
